Football Officials Needed in Missouri

An organization is asking for people to consider becoming a Football Game Official.

President of the Southwest Missouri Football Officials Association Gary Hurst along with Recruiting Coordinator Dan Murphy talked about the recruiting drive during a recent edition of KRZK's "Ozarks Now" Program that they are looking to recruit around 18-20 new officials for the upcoming season. The lack of football crews over the last four years has forced several schools, including some in the Lakes Region, to move games off of Friday night to have crews to cover them. They added that between the Springfield and Joplin areas they cover, they have 66 schools they cover with football officials.

Murphy says the first of three training sessions will take place at Springfield Catholic High School on June 30. New recruits that pass certification would call some Junior High, Freshman, and Junior Varsity contests this fall and could potentially work some Varsity Games later this season.
