H.S. Football Playoffs: Forsyth Grabs OT Win, Reeds Spring Outlasts Hollister, Branson Shutout

The Four Lakes Area Teams split their games in the Opening Round of the Missouri State High School Football Playoffs on a rainy and windy Friday night in the Ozarks.

One each happened in the same game as Lakes Area Rivals Reeds Spring and Hollister hooked up for the second time this year. While Hollister grabbed their first win in the series back in September, Friday night the Wolves jumped out to a big lead then withstood a second half rally from the Tigers to grab the 20-12 win. The Wolves got all of the touchdowns in the first half then saw the Tigers get two fourth quarter touchdowns before time ran out. Caden Wiest grabbed a pair of touchdown passes to help the Wolves move into the second round of the playoffs at Mountain Grove next Friday while the Tigers season ends at 6-4.

Meanwhile in Forsyth, the Panthers got a major test from Houston before prevailing in overtime 41-34. The Panthers did not lead in the game until the first overtime after Rollie Fisher scored on a run. The Panthers had a chance to tie or take the lead but the Panther defense held on fourth and goal from the 1-yard line to secure the win and a semi-final round appearance next Friday as they will host Mtn. View-Liberty.

For the Branson Pirates, they lose in the opening round of District play for the first time in three years as they drop a 28-0 game at Rolla. The Pirate defense kept the Bulldogs in check most of the night, including during the opening moments of the ballgame when a turnover gave them the ball deep in Branson territory. However a couple of big plays in the second half gave the Bulldogs control of the game and ended the Branson season with a 3-7 record.
