Thursday Basketball: Marshfield Gets Branson in Overtime, Teams Split at Sparta Tournament

Thursday's Basketball Results include an overtime loss for the Branson Lady Pirates while area teams split at the opening day of the Sparta Girls Tournament.

Marshfield 60 Branson 51 OT
The Lady Jays surged ahead to a 10 point first quarter lead but the Lady Pirates surged in the second quarter to grab the halftime lead and the game remained close the rest of the way with neither team leading by more than four points until overtime. Marshfield took advantage of some Branson miscues in overtime and hit a couple of key three-point shots to pull away. Maci Rogers led Branson with 16 points, one of three Lady Pirates to score in double figures while four Lady Jays were in double figures to lead them to the win. 

Sparta Girls Tournament
The lone upset in the first round of the tournament, moved to Sparta Middle School due to a water line break at the impacting the High School Gym Floor, saw sixth seeded Hartville upend third seed Hollister 36-26. Meanwhile, second seeded Forsyth rolled to a 70-31 win over Bakersfield which will set up a rematch of the Lady Panthers taking on the Lady Eagles. The two teams played on Monday with the Lady Panthers prevailing 55-48 in Forsyth. Top seeded Sparta defeated Gainesville 60-21 while Norwood slipped by Springfield Greenwood 47-37. 

The two Lakes Area teams will play in back to back games with the Forsyth-Hartville Game at 7:00 followed by Hollister against Bakersfield at 8:30. Both games can be heard on MOARK Sports Dot Com.
